My story so far….

Hi, I’m Andrew Long. I’m a data and visualization journalist based in Mesa, Arizona, where I live with my wife and two dogs. My portfolio is here.

I graduated from Arizona State University with a focus on GIS and spatial analysis. Before that, I studied public relations and journalism at Mesa Community College, where I was editor of The Mesa Legend.

I spent a decade as a newspaper journalist with the East Valley Tribune and The Arizona Republic. At the Republic, I served as the senior news artist on the A1 team, working closely with reporters and editors to create informational graphics and maps that boosted single-copy sales.

After leaving the Republic, I co-founded the Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting. I also taught web and data journalism as an adjunct professor at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, where I served as the interactive editor for the award-winning Carnegie-Knight News21.

In 2017, I founded the Arizona Game Fair, which became the state’s largest tabletop gaming convention.

Since 2020, I’ve worked as a data analyst for Emerald Expositions and MJBizDaily, analyzing and visualizing business trends in the cannabis industry.
